Air Fryer Miso Butter Chicken Wings

These Air Fryer Miso Butter Chicken Wings are crisp, sticky and loaded with savoury flavour. White miso, melted butter, honey, soy sauce and fresh garlic combine to create a rich glaze that caramelises beautifully as the wings cook.

With just 10 minutes of preparation and around 25 minutes in the air fryer, they are an easy option for a weeknight dinner, entertaining platter or game-day snack.

Serves: 4

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 22–25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken wings
  • 2 tablespoons white miso paste
  • 50 g butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 garlic clove, finely grated
Fresh chicken wings ready to be coated in miso butter glaze

Method

  1. Add the melted butter, white miso paste, honey, soy sauce and grated garlic to a large bowl. Stir until smooth and thoroughly combined.
  2. Place the chicken wings in the bowl and coat them generously with the miso butter glaze. For extra flavour, allow the wings to marinate for 15–30 minutes if time permits.
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 190°C.
  4. Arrange the wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving a little space between each piece. Cook in batches if necessary rather than overcrowding the basket.
  5. Air fry for 22–25 minutes at 190°C, turning the wings halfway through cooking. They are ready when the skin is golden and crisp, the glaze is sticky and caramelised, and the chicken is cooked through.
  6. Serve immediately while hot. For extra glaze, reserve a clean portion before it comes into contact with the raw chicken and brush it over the cooked wings before serving.

How to Serve Miso Butter Chicken Wings

Serve these wings hot from the air fryer as a snack, shared starter or easy main meal. They pair well with steamed rice, crisp cucumber, shredded cabbage, spring onion or a fresh Asian-style slaw.

For entertaining, arrange them on a large platter and finish with sliced spring onion, sesame seeds or a squeeze of fresh lime.

Butcher’s Tip

Air circulation is the key to crisp chicken wings. Keep the wings in a single layer and avoid overcrowding the basket. Cooking in two batches will give you a much better result than packing everything tightly into one.
