Cheese Kransky Pizza Dog

Cheese Kransky Pizza Dogs combine a golden pizza dough base, melted mozzarella and a whole Cheese Kransky, finished with mustard, tomato sauce, mayonnaise and crunchy toppings. It is a hot dog and pizza in one, with a home oven option if you do not have a pizza oven.

Our Cheese Kransky sausages are fully cooked, so this recipe is about heating them through while getting the dough golden and the cheese melted.

Serves: 4
Prep: 15 minutes
Cook and finish: allow 20–25 minutes using a home oven
Total: 35–40 minutes, plus oven preheating

Baking time: 15–20 minutes at 220°C in a home oven, or approximately 2–3 minutes per batch in a hot pizza oven. Allow extra time for batches where needed.

Ingredients

Cheese Kransky sausages, pizza dough, grated cheese, tomato sauce and toppings for pizza dogs
  • 4 Cheese Kransky sausages
  • 500 g pizza dough
  • Pickles, sliced, to serve
  • 1 cup mozzarella, grated
  • Crispy onions, to serve
  • English mustard, to serve
  • Tomato sauce, to serve
  • Mayonnaise, to serve
  • Chopped chives, to serve

Method

  1. Preheat your home oven to 220°C and line a baking tray. Alternatively, preheat your pizza oven according to its instructions.
  2. Divide the pizza dough into four equal portions, approximately 125 g each. Stretch each into an oval long enough to hold a Kransky. Divide the mozzarella between the dough portions and press one Kransky into the centre of each, leaving the top exposed.
  3. For a home oven, place on the lined tray and bake for 15–20 minutes until the dough is golden and cooked through, the cheese has melted and the Kransky is hot throughout. In a hot pizza oven, cook for approximately 2–3 minutes, turning as needed for even colouring. Pizza oven heat varies, so check the dough underneath and allow longer if needed.
  4. Remove from the oven and drizzle with English mustard, tomato sauce and mayonnaise. Finish with crispy onions, sliced pickles and chopped chives. Serve warm.

How to Serve

Serve one pizza dog per person with a crisp salad or slaw on the side. Put the sauces and toppings on the table so everyone can finish their own. Add the crispy onions just before eating to keep their crunch.

Butcher’s Tip

Keep the dough beneath each sausage fairly thin and even. A thick base can stay doughy while the edges colour, especially in a very hot pizza oven. The Lucky Pig Cheese Kransky is already cooked; check that the dough is cooked underneath and the sausage is hot throughout before adding your toppings.
